it also seems to me that it is quite nice to have something in an exhibition that is separate from the art market/commerce end of the gallery deal. A symbol of Pensato's spirit. Obviously there is plenty for sale, so the impermanent installation is this wonderful ephemeral element that can only be experienced for a short period of time slightly distracts us from the real reason the work is in the gallery (money). Suddenly the gallery isn't only about sales-it is a place where art happens...

Yea - after viewing the studio visit I was doing double take on the identical piece. So I see a sale potential there. I had never thought of the potential of an on-site commission. As always I come away from your videos with a better understanding of this art world I love (and occasionally detest) so much. Thanks again.

thanks!

Work as serious as a heart attack below the imagery. She got that thing that makes the bulldog break its chain. Can't wait for the visitation.
Thank you Mr. Kalm. Best-

I think you just should quit the music from your videos. I liked more when they where raw, more documental.

charcoal ! .....great
James, Hate to display my ignorance here, but what is the payoff for gallery and artist when the largest work is drawn directly on the studio wall and presumably will be painted over in a month or two? Great work! Thanks...

Yo yellowfringe,
Good question. For the gallery, it provides an opportunity to show that there could be a potential for an in-site commission, and if you look at the studio visit vid, Joyce has an identical piece on paper that she worked out to get ready for the wall drawing. Basically I thinks its a chance to present a work that is more experiential, not distanced by being created somewhere else and just displayed at the gallery. Some times its just about showing what you got going.

I was hoping you'd do something on Joyce Pensato.Brilliant works, joyful, desperate, explosive. Thanks James.
