Guided rock climbing on the In Pin (986 metres) on Skye's Black Cuillin Ridge. 11th May 2009... David and Alastair climbing the UK's hardest mountain summit the Inaccessible Pinnacle (In Pin or Inn Pinn), Sgurr Dearg on the isle of Skye in Scotland.
This sensational moderate climb up the east ridge a knife edge fin of rock has good holds but exceptional exposure... It was first climbed by the Pilkindon brothers in 1880. It is the hardest Munro summit to tick for the average mountain walker. To gain the top requires rock climbing skills, ropes, calm weather, a good head for heights and finally an abseil to get back down again!

For more details, photos and info on guiding on Skye see the Talisman Mountaineering blog at http://talisman-activities.blogspot.com/2009/05/hot-cuillin-capers.html and http://talisman-activities.blogspot.com/2010/05/really-cool-on-cuillin-ridge....

Also see http://www.talisman-activities.co.uk/summer/guiding_on_skye.htm to book a Cuillin Ridge course or hire a qualified AMI guide for the In Pin and more....

Warning: During our climb up the In Pin there was a BBC film and rope access crew rigging safety ropes on the summit. All the fixed safety ropes, handrails and abseil ropes seen on the video are not normally in place!!
More details of the filming of Nick Crane climbing the In Pin for the production of 'Munro: Mountain Man' can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mwgyq

  • Good video devoid of the usual guff about cars/ hostels/ tents...which you can hear in any mountaineers pub!

  • @Lisnageeragh

    Glad you enjoyed...

  • Great wee film..some lovely angles..especially the composure of the abseil section. Did this with my mate Ewan Gourlay oin June 07..attempted the whole Skye ridge in one go but only managed just over half. Bivvied at Collies Ledge on first day and got the In Pin to ourselves next morning in glorious hot weather..I shall return!! Andy Scrimgeour.

The whole ridge is a big undertaking most people underestimate the routefinding, exposure, fitness and commitment..

  • Oh I love the Music when the Bagpipes and small Accordions are coming in.

Brilliant ! I could listen to this for hours.

    Long life to SCOTLAND !

This little Film is well done and fascinating to watch.

You may want to check my Channel. There you will see my own tribute to Scotland, ... and to Mountains.

    Take care.

  • A lovely cinematic film. Wonderful weather and scenery. Brings back many good memories of Spring on Skye in the 50's, 60's and 70's. You could climb on the ridge for days and not see a single sole then!

  • Great climb. Fantastic scenery!
