Shot at Mcmurdo Station, Antarctica:

In 1912 , Englishman Sir Robert Scott set out for the South Pole using Siberian Ponies to haul his gear. As the ponies weakened, the courageous explorer devoured them one by one to meet the nutritional requirements of his historic goal. Unfortunately he was beaten to the Pole by the dastardly Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen. Scott, out of ponies and nearly defenseless against the relentless and indifferent Antarctic weather, died a miserable death in the middle of nowhere.

  • Starkly beautiful and haunting. Very imaginative.

    .

People who judge this video based solely on its treatment of Scott are missing the point. It's not intended as journalism. Rather, it's an artistic treatment of a historical event. Who knows, if Scott is up there watching, he might be intrigued . . .

    .

I think there is a sensitivity to Scott's achievements as well as his failures. Well done. A difficult work done under difficult conditions!

  • I don't know why everyone is disrespecting you for this video that they (and only they) interpret as disrespectful. It is interesting and well done. I notice that in your description you refer to Scott as courageous and do not cite any fault of his. I think you'll find that none of your self righteous critics have actually produced an videos, and most of their favorites are shite.

  • What tosh!

  • morons...

  • This is theater, in case anyone is wondering. With no dialogue everything must be communicated visually. It's original and engaging and damn well done.

  • 2:29 fuck you why take the mic

  • Amundsen was "dastardly" in the same fashion as Scott was "modest" and "well-prepared"

  • Worst video I've ever seen in my life. I hope you get cancer.

  • @DavidBPreston Well, if it places much of the blame of the deaths of the men on the weather only, while dismissing his rival Amundsen as 'dastardly' and omitting anything about the many arguable decisions Scott made, I'll say that someone might be too much zealous in saying what they think of him.

I maintain my position that, while one of the greatest explorers of his age, Scott was unable to think outside his own set of ideas (ponies and man-hauling) that helped seal their ultimate fates.

  • Hey that was pretty evocative and a great way to waste time. Where else on this planet would you find that collection of snowfields and black granite grit? Kudos!

  • I am so glad this is up. I found a copy of this at the south pole station a few years ago and have been dying to see it again. It cracks me up every time. Very well done.

  • Just plain creepy
