It really depends on the type of piano. Just open it up and compare that part to the other ones, and see what's odd.

i have a question, my piano rings when i play a note, i.e. the sound continues well after i release the key, what is wrong with it?

Then ya. In that case you have a hell of a tuning job on your hands. It's not going to be pretty. Unless you enjoy tuning. (I never have.. but I think I'd like it)

yes, microtone is what i should have said.

i did not say anything about tuning a flute.
i'd say "reread what i said" but if you couldn't understand something that simple the first time.. you probably wouldn't the second or the third.
i said "transpose"
that basically means shifting the music being played by a tone.
also, you originally said "semitone" which made my answer perfect. (and a novel solution i might add)
changing it in your last comment to "microtune" changes things. and the answer to your new question is to tune piano.

i didn't realize a flute could be 'tuned'? on the other side, it seems very rational to consider a piano -especially if it's not used with other instruments-could be off tune to standard pitch by a micro-tone.

then the flutist can either transpose their piece by a semitone.. or the pianist can spend a weekend tunning all 264 strings by a semitone..
the nature and phrasing of your question indicates that you already know this.. so why are you asking?

what happens if the piano is basically in tune with itself but it's off a semitone overall from standard pitch and the owner wants to play with a wind instument like a flute?
