After you get root access you will still need to download the application which you can get at

http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list

Must download from g1 browser

My phone came with the wifi tether application when i put up a custom rom

to all you dont need root access at all just download from andriod market PDAnet i use it its good and u dont need to root ur phones

@deeg76 google noobnl and it's the first link that comes up. If you use his aweseome rom that is pre rooted when you install it, it also puts the wifi tether on your phone my default. trust me, if your stuck with sprint stock android 2.1, it's time to root your phone. Rooting opens up a whole new world to applications like Quick Boot that let you reboot your phone with a button and then you have built in free wifi tether. i am using it right now to watch this video.
