@TheMichaelfreeman Haha, touche! To each his own my friend. I think the colors they used are beautiful and in the end, that's all that matters. Jazz is amazing that way; just because you don't find it agreeable with your palette, it doesn't make it wrong. Have a good one.
@TheMichaelfreeman Well, that is your opinion and you are definitely entitled to it but this is jazz and as such is meant to evolve. Thanks to musicians like Nick and company the art form is still evolving and the old is made new once again for a contemporary audience. As far as your saying that Nick can't control "it" I beg to differ. He has complete control over what he is playing and his instrument. There's an old saying in spanish that says "Para los distintos gustos, Dios creo los colores."
@trptkrazed, well the piece was basically a folksong that morphed into standard, it was never meant to be interpreted into solo improvisation war between an overly ambitious saxophone player, and the trumpet player with a great sound ill give him that (he's got some great licks as well) but he can't control it, to bad.
And finally it degenerates into Adonis Rose playing his drums, alas i don't care for drum solo's.
no tribute to louis armstrong and homoage to the quiet quintet that did it well.
this is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Nicholas Payton and Terence Blanchard are the best in the biz . i personally would give the edge to Terence but it is slight. unreal the music that is going on that no one knows about.
