Why not two partitions? I have always saved my data files separate from my operating system.

I personally prefer to use one partition, because it is easy today to image the entire hard drive to backup storage, and i don't need to worry of running out of hard drive space if i have two or more partitions. I recommend to watch my recent ReadyNas Ultra 4TB.
