A video of the british army in Napoleon: Total War. You may know the tune from the TV-series "Sharp" with Sean Bean about the 95th light infantry, the "Rifles"; "Greenjackets" or "Sharpshooters".

Of course the 95th is shown in this video ;) But, unfortunely, without Sean Bean. Please rate and comment!
And don't forget to subscribe, I'm going to make more Empire and Napoleon Total War videos.

NOTE: This is NOT the "Over the Hills and far away" by Gary Moore, Nightwish or Led Zeppelin. This is a traditional tune from 1709 (maybe earlier)

Lyrics
____
Here's forty shillings on the drum
For those who'll volunteer to come
To 'list and fight the foe today.
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

When duty calls me I must go
To stand and face another foe.
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

If I should fall to rise no more,
As many comrades did before,
Then ask the fifes and drums to play.
Over the hills and far away.

Then fall in lads behind the drum,
With colours blazing like the sun.
Along the road to come-what may.
Over the hills and far away.

  • @Preacherjonson Same here

  • @fredofasgarnia Hey it could well be, the American First Infantry have been quoted saying it as well I think, it's a pretty catchy boast :P

  • @Robsfund Thanks, I actually never knew that that was the motto of the engineers, makes sense though when you think about it! I've read that it was a popular boast of the 95th mind, so unless you could say it was an unofficial sort of motto? Thanks for the info by the way! :-)

  • @fredofasgarnia you know that's the motto of the British Royal Engineers right? The 95th Motto was either "I'm 95" or "The Black and the Green, finest colours ever seen." ;)

  • @fredofasgarnia yh 95th FTW

  • @artstudent07 Also incase you care (im a horrible history nerd sorry) the british army was "a projectile to be fired by the british navy" thats the reason. The french blockaded us and then our main fleets came back to protect the shores...during the period of 1815 - 1914 the period is known as pax britannia... where we ruled the waves with a unbeatable navy... thats y we lost our forces by 1914...again sorry but just incase you cared xD

  • @artstudent07 To an extent yes and no. We did have a smaller standing army in the UK but in our colonies we had an almost perminant colonial army. Especially in india etc. But yeah only around the 7 years war (when we took quebec) did the british really start to fight back properly thanks to wolfe and various other officers who realised the error of having a huge empire with little to realy perminant force.

  • @Cloud2080 ah look through history, every time GB/UK gets pushed to it knees. GB didnt have a standing army or navy between 1700 to 1755. We only starting moving when the French blockade us. It only took a very small time for us to get it to gather. We ended up taking over India lol!

  • lool ich bin nackt

  • Ahhh back when Britain was a force to be feared... back when we had a true political sway, unlike now days.

Pretty Red coats that took on the world, thanks for making this video xD im going to use it in my history project... as long as you have no objections xD
