  • It would indeed be an honor to see our government turn the tables and make it very profitable and comfortable for family businesses and small business to run themselves. It would also give a lot of purpose back to the people. There is a lot of pride and reward in being a family business owner.

  • What you say is correct, where the economy of scale can ultimately lead to large corporations lobbying for regulation and inefficient markets that would favor them. This is why I am more of a libertarian and perhaps anarcho-capitalist - if the political power (police power, tax power, regulatory power, etc) that organizations ranging from unions to large corporations take control of was fundamentally smaller - there wouldn't be as severe negative forces on markets and its participants.

  • I would argue that large corporations have too much political control. This is especially true since mom and pops run a hell of a lot more than they are given credit for. Mom and pops also pay more hourly and pay more taxes and medical per employee, proving that our system is set up for corporations to do better from the get go. Don't you think that if the system was set up to benefit mom and pop, it would turn the scales and put success and political power back in the hands of the people?

  • I would argue that large corporations, if managed successfully, actually create more wealth more efficiently for employees and the communities they operate in than inefficient "mom & pop" stores that are unable to take advantage of economies of scale and need to charge high prices and whose businesses are negatively influenced by personal life. Of course, though, the human mind finds mom & pop stores and tradition more appealing than corporate efficiency.

  • Hmm. Very interesting indeed. While I love the information on personal success, I also would enjoy watching small business owners succeed at being just that. Because corporations are not necessarily a great thing for the community on a whole. Their positive changes are small and slow in all subjects and they do not spread the wealth back amongst the people in a fair manner. That, however, does not change my own personal desire to succeed in the world of business.

  • Very inspiring and informative
