I went to Frederic Chiu's New York concert a few days ago (May 2010, Faust Harrison Piano showroom) and wow! He played Une Barque sur l'Ocean by Ravel like I've never heard it, with poetry and intensity to spare but this concert was most memorable for Liszt's transcription of Beethoven's 5th Symphony in which Chiu put Katsaris and Gould to shame, no less. Here I'd like to share an excerpt from his recording of Liszt's transcription of Schubert's Schwanengesang. Two words define it: Steel and plasticity.
quite nice! I like it very much!
