  • @npe1 I would have placed them 1st, as well (although the audience loved Regoetzy-Sallay). Unfortunately, we all knew Min-Mo weren't going to win anything major ever gain when they switched to Pakhomova. Linichuk and Karporonov were so heavily promoted by the Soviet Federation because their then-current "Queen," Elena Tchaikovskaya, pushed for Lini-Karpo.

  • @kirkenes You loved it, eh? That's what makes our sport so interesting, and I appreciate your inpute. In any case, though, many thought Min & Mo lost their title in 1978 with the piano rendition of West Side Story--not because they had a fall but because the program had did bit have the usual "intricately connected details" between Min and Mo. Of course, others may say that it was all about the fall they suffered.

  • @nondescriptnyc In 1978 they had an absolutely stunning FD to "The West Side Story". Way ahead of their times.

  • @npe1 I agree, with the exception of 1978 and 1979 (when Min & Mo had poorly designed and choreographed FD programs, in my opinion). In any case, the politics within the Soviet federation adversely affected this couple. As soon as they switched coaches to Pakhomova, the Soviet fedetation stopped supporting them and, instead, they began pushing for a Tchaikovskaya couple: Linichuk/Karponosov. Tchaikovskaya WAS such a politically powerful person back then...

  • I always preferred Min and Mo to Linichuk and Karponosov. I thought Min & Mo should have won in Lake Placid '80.

  • They create such beautiful images on the ice.

  • They had such stunning grace, line, and elegance. They're a treat to watch.
