*****Added Video Annotations :)*****

A recording i found a few days ago of me drumming in my room to an un-released drum solo by Led Zeppelin known as Pat's Delight. The Group played this one up till about '69 before Moby Dick came around and they dropped this one, however there are various good bootleg versions of it floating around the internet.

Recorded with a single SM57 hung from my ceiling at around the middle of my drum set picking up everything.

Recorded onto my Tascam 34B 4 Track Reel-to-Reel then transferred to a 192khz/24bit Wav file on my pc (for anybody wanting technical details)

My drumset is just a simple beginners kit, a brand called 'Active Percussion' nothing much, My Hihat and bass pedal both Speedking, however i think the hi hat was from a Ludwig line of hardware called 'Atlas'. Both purchased on eBay second hand and relatively old.

Remo Ambassador Batter and resonant heads on all drums except snare which has an unbranded resonant head on it.

Cymbals Left to Right :

15" Paiste 2002 Sound Edge Hi Hat
18" Stagg Single Hammered Crash
24" Paiste Giant Beat
17" Stagg Double Hammered Crash

Just me playing an improvised solo inbetween the Intro and Coda, starting off with a typical John Bonham type lick.

Please comment constructive critiscm or approval, hold back on comments like ' This is gay' or 'Thiss SUXXXXX Travis BARKER 4evaaa!!!' because they don't really have anything useful to them.

  • I think it's pretty cool. I've been looking for a while now of people who record to tape. with drums I mean. You could also get a better sound with a single Cad M-179. there cheep too. Put it in front of the kit facing down at an angle slightly. I think some beatles were done like that. or put it overhead and use the 57 for the kick! Nice playing man! What kind of mixer did you use? I wanted to get the 34 b but couldn't find one. but wanted to get a soundcraft 4 channel spirit mixer. Fat combo!

  • @MrJohntube12 Thanks man, this was done with ust a cheapy Behringer Mixer, has like 6 - 8 xlr pres and something like 12 inputs total , 4 subs and then the stereo bus, so it allows some crude routing so I can split stuff going to tracks on the 34B.

The 34B has broken down atm :( Cam belt was replaced but in the process of taking the head assembly apart I messed up a solenoid used for keeping the capstan pressed against the rear side of the tape at an even pressure... Continued in next comment..

  • @MrJohntube12 Also have a quarter inch 2 track machine which is still working, but the reason these early videos didn't have video was because I couldn't figure how to keep the tape audio synced to digital video, waht with flutter and wow and all that...

I think i'd have to stripe the 4th track on the machine with timecode and try find a way to have the digital video chase the speed variations in the tape audio maybe? Do you have any ideas? Would be very interested to hear.

  • you should try to work towards being a DW sponsor. you definetly have the skill

  • everyone should yell at this guy for claiming this is him. he literally ripped the audio from this video and said it was him.

shubham mondal. find him on facebook please

  • @uberpirox Man I don't know about syncing Audio. It's always nice to know someone who can help with that kind of stuff. imovie can't do that? I dont know if you have a mac though...maybe you know someone who does though! I had a beheringer mixer. Actually my first mixer. I had fun with it. Recording gear is pricy when it all adds up.

  • Really good. You've got mad skillz my friend.
