So the other day I come home from work and Sensation! is messing around with the Mauser with this silly grin on his face. He goes ahead and 'tactical reloads' the Mauser right before my eyes, apparently having gotten annoyed that his attempt to do so at Angeles before failed. He was sure it was possible and sure enough, it is.
Strangely there's a recess on the left side of the receiver that only seems to serve one function--if you place your thumb there to depress a sixth round against the receiver wall, the bolt will catch the sixth round properly and feed it into the chamber without jamming or attempting to double-feed. It's just as smooth as operating the weapon normally and does no damage to the parts.
I tried searching and there's very little information on the web about this. Most people say that it's either impossible or that your gun must be "broken" in order for it to work. We disagree, though we would love to know what exactly that recess was designed for.
That's pretty neat. I have an original Kar98k but no firing pin.
