Mensa-itis: memorizing vs understanding.

I've known a few mensans, talked to a number, and have had a few very close friends who were mensans (including one of my best friends). And yet, there's a sort thing I call to myself "mensa syndrome" where they think if they've memorized a heuristic that this memorized thing is an absolute. I've noticed a similar problem with creationists - they memorize facts (some of them questionable), but don't have any deep understanding of those facts.

@miketacoma5 I struggle to find virtue in everyone, but I don't value everyone's opinions on every subject. I would trust my life to my dad's judgment on how to survive in the woods, but I would not attach special significance to his opinions on relativity.

At any rate, there's also the value of a person's opinion, even the ones with which I disagree and I most certainly value everybody's right to formulate, possess and aver them. It's merely simple fact that when they tend to be, or even seem to be pointed, you invoke response.
