Love you, Nicholas Ray! Great ending.... I had no idea you were separated from Gloria... or that you were even married. But I really liked the ending you all improvised... it was very real, and a classic piece of septieme art. I hope to see it on my local big screen... we are very lucky to have a theatre saved and dedicated to these old masterpieces.

@floglobe Actually, he says "fucked up" not "tough" - the word is censored in this version of the clip, which makes it sound a little like "tough." Other versions on YouTube have it uncensored... not sure where this one is sourced from.

I remember in Godard's Pierrot Le Fou Jean-Paul Belmondo says he sent the babysitter to see Johnny Guitar. "Good for her education." he says. It was on TCM a couple days later, and I watched it of course.

My heroes are no more neurotic than the audience. Unless you can feel that the hero is just as tough as you are - that you would make the same mistakes that he would make, you can have no satisfaction when he does commit an heroic act.

Probably one of the most underrated directors ever. You know what Godard said about the cinema, "Nicholas Ray is the Cinema".
A character in "The Dreamers" said that. Sorry for the random reference but I love Nicholas Ray and that quote made me happy even though I have not seen "The Dreamers".

Actually, Nicholas Ray had this unique way of bonding with both his actors and later, his students. Many people said that despite his eccentricities, he made you feel comfortable and relaxed, and this brought out the greatest performances of actors from James Dean to Humphrey Bogart.
