This video was taken at a wedding reception being held at The Mellwood Art Center. The videographer used the iMap Weather Radio and RadarScope applications for the iPhone to track the bow echo as it approached and began impacting Louisville. The storm caused a transformer to blow very near the complex, causing a temporary power outage.
During the late afternoon to early evening hours of August 13, 2011, a bow echo impacted Louisville, KY with widespread wind damage due to straight line winds and successive downbursts. Trees were snapped and uprooted. Power lines in parts of the city were knocked down. Billboard signs were downed. Some structures suffered superficial damage as a direct result of the wind as well. Near Clarksville, IN, the JC Penny store at The Green Tree Mall suffered significant roof damage. Over 80,000 customers were left without power in Louisville. Jefferson County Public Schools cancelled its first two days of classes (as of August 15, 2011) as a result of the widespread damage and power outages.
@lunalovedria Thank you. At that particular time, I had had a few beers and it was a wedding reception with a lot of folks I knew or was at least acquainted with, hence the more relaxed and casual attitude I had behind the camera. lol This isn't my best video, but I like how it turned out.
