Insurrection had some lofty expectations to fill since Generations, and First Contact were such huge hits. First Contact was the franchise's most successful film since The Voyage Home, and Insurrection unfortunately underperformed at the box office, and wasn't the critical success that First Contact was either. The main theme which there isn't much of one is the Ba'Ku Village, it's nice theme and very lighthearted, and suites the film perfectly. It's rarely heard unfortunately, and it makes brief appearances in Regeneration, and The Healing Process, and obviously the end credits which it is spliced with the main Star Trek theme.

The action music is where this score takes center stage. It's some of the best action music he hasn't written since Total Recall, and recalls (hard to avoid the pun) Rambo III quite heavily. The romantic elements in this score are very strong too, and balance out the action sequences very well. However with that said there is one weakness and that's the main theme is rarely used. First Contact's main theme was used often and to great effect however a theme is sorely lacking in this score. I still consider this better than First Contact, and miles above Nemesis.

  • Well, I'm glad you uploaded it, because it's one of my favorites. Thanks.

  • Goldsmith hasn't had nary a misstep since (the real) Planet of the Apes. It was the movie that was lacking...lol, and the franchise was fortunate to have been able to hire his services. This general soundtrack is actually more versatile program music than First Contact (which I subjectively like better for it's martial robustness), and shows Goldsmith was still relevant, searching, and not compromising one bit.

  • It's fantastic! Expecially from 1:45 to 3:02

  • This is heart breakingly beautiful!

  • There comes new Star trek Movie The Tree of Live

  • i saw this in the cinema and it is one of picards best

  • @krazie835 no, its a Klingon piano..its pretty unpopular there because it sounds so feminine

  • "Where could warp drive ever take us except away from here?"

  • Zimmer's very best is not nearly as good as Goldsmith's worst. Goldsmith commands an orchestra like Picard commands the Enterprise.
