Lillian Brace
Carleigh Chitwood

Chelsea Victoria

TITLE OF PIECE
"To Be Fulfilled"

GOALS
The goal of this improvisation is to articulate the relationships between a string of individuals who gain strength and support through baring one another's burdens physically, through contact improvisation.

OBJECTIVES
In order to show the journey of each of us as individuals the first third of the piece will be exploring our surroundings without acknowledging the others in the space. Each individual will also have their own boundaries during this first section which will communicate the sense of isolation. Burdens will be represented by the pouring of weight and falling down to the floor or into whatever structure we are near/on. In order to show the relationships development we will start off the second portion with light contact which will develop into more complicated movement and weight bearing as it progresses. The lifts will symbolize our ability to carry one another throughout our journey of life. If a fall occurs is may represent our failings as people, in that we are not perfect, but faulty. Strength will be seen in our physical ability to mount and carry one another through space.

BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND END
Beginning: In the first section all of the dancers explore the space within their own designated area though all must travel in the same direction, utilizing the technique of rolling (or in some cases pouring of weight into their surroundings). There is freedom to explore shape and manipulate time as desired by each dancer. There is no physical contact between dancers at this point.

Middle: The dancers are now free to continue traveling in the same direction but are able to deviate from their environment and interact freely with others (although contact is optional), specifically utilizing the technique of mounting and carrying. The freedom to explore shape and manipulate time is still in effect.

End: The dancers will converge into one area and create a moveable foundation which will be the support for climbing and more complex mounting/carrying techniques. Due to the nature of this exercise, the continuous flow of the circular path may be obstructed. But if and when the opportunity presents itself, the foundation may choose to move as a unit, along this set path. By this point, there will continuous physical connection within the whole group.

THEME
The overarching theme for this piece is that as Christians (and if not, as people), it is our job to bare one another's burdens as we make the journey from this life into the next, for we were not created to walk in this life isolated and alone. God openly wants us to come and lay our burdens at his feet, and likewise, because we find our identity in him, he desires that we share the weight of our lives with one another.

USE OF ELEMENTS
Time: Time manipulation will be utilized to express the different seasons (emotional, physical, or spiritual) that people encounter during their lives. Sometimes, it is fast, full of vigor or frustration, and sometimes slow and tedious, a battle to take that next step.

Space: Space is extremely important in this exercise because it establishes the universal law of time (the horizontal circular patterns explored) and the fact that we are all alive, moving towards death. At the same time, the verticality of the space, with its many obstacles creates a dynamic opposition to the flow of horizontal movement, and represents the many hills and valleys that occur in life.

Shape: Shape demonstrates the constant molding that people go through as they grow. We are all people and our bodies define us collectively, but our thinking is constantly being challenged and forever being compacted and stretched.

USE OF OTHER COMPONENTS
Location: Student Center (Opposite of the cafeteria)

Props: Chairs and sofas will fill and define the boarders of the space. A geometric pattern will be created which will at times confine and at other times simply obstruct the dancers travel patterns.

Music: The purpose of the music is to give a clearer understanding of what is happening physically through the text of each piece. However, the dancers will not use verbal text during the improvisation.
