This is one of the first MacBooks released, purchased back in May 2006. First it moo'd, then it started suffering from Random Shutdown Syndrome (RSS) and now it's dead - when powered on the screen fills up with thin vertical multi-coloured stripes over a minute or two.

  • Actually turns out this problem was introduced in 10.4.7 and fixed in 10.4.8 so you should just need to do a software update. Of course if you suffer from RSS as well and it shuts down during the update then you could end up (as I did) with a kernel panic on boot!
