Kangal dogs have been around since Assyrian and Babylonian periods. Geographically and not politically, Its not just in turkey, but found mainly in Mesopotamia. In the past they use to use these dogs to hunt down lions. My grandad has one in turkey. Mainly used by south eastern turkey....as they are in to their live stock.

@1sowild , I was speaking ignorantly. I've done some research since I made that comment, and now I realise that the LSG dogs are far superior. Although a male Fila Brasileiro can definitely hold its own. I've been researching the Volkodav breeds, and they are very impressive. Pyrenean Mastiffs, CAOs, CO, SROs, Sage Kooche, Mioritics, Bukovinas, Armenian Shepherd dogs, Tibetan Mastiff, Kangal, Akbash, Maremma, are all very impressive.

@hadesoftheunderworld lmao, are you kidding?? A Kangal would pi** on a Fila or Presa!! Presa and Fila only take on other dog's by sick dogfighters.. Kangals take on dangerous predators to defend livestock! You let any fighting breed; Dogo, Presa, Pit, etc, go into a pasture guarded by an LGD like a CAO, Kangal, Maremma, etc, and the LGD will win! My neighbors Pitbull came onto the farmland my German shepherd protects, and my German shepherd dominated the Pitbull, and sent it home crying!
