From the film "Trouble Brewing" (1939) starring George Formy, Googie Withers, Gus McNaughton and Garry Marsh. Composed by George Formby, Harry Gifford & Fred E. Cliffe. Also featured in this video is Esma Cannon, who, as well as "Trouble Brewing" also appeared in "I See Ice" and "It's In The Air," all of which were just single scene "bit parts". The picture quality was much better when I first uploaded it, but it seems YouTube have compressed it and reduced the frame rate. Good old YouTube!

  • who are the 2 women is this?

One looks like a very young Esma Cannon!

    Though it probably isn't!

  • @thekroton - Yes the younger one is Esma Cannon, she also had a very minor part in another of Formby's films, "It's In The Air". I don't know who the other woman is.

  • @mkcwebmaster Sorry, where can we find George Formby's films? I tried on the Internet and found nothing... :).

  • @Chomuno I bought all my DVDs from Amazon. "Keep Fit", "Keep Your Seats Please","Trouble Brewing", "No Limit" and "Boots Boots" are available individually. Also you can buy a collection box set which consists of "No Limit", "Let George Do It", "Turned Out Nice Again", "I See Ice", "Spare A Copper", "It's In The Air" and "Come On George". Warning - don't buy from third party sellers (especially on eBay) because they are always poor quality copies. Spend more and buy new, it's worth it.

  • @Kezam11 Couldn't agree more. I have been buying George's CD & film box sets like they are going out of fashion! I listen to the CDs every day and if there is a glitch in my day - I sit down to watch one of his films.

George Formby & the delightfully dotty Esma Cannon - what teaming! :-)

The lyrics of George's songs are hilarious - just love 'Swimmin with the wimmin' and 'Kiss your Mansy Pansy' - never fail to make me laugh. :-)

  • Just reading some of these posts back after I posted my post and I am amazed that how many people have said the same thing, that listening to George made them smile and made them feel happy. This might be a cure for unhappiness? The government want to research what makes us happy, right? Then perhaps they should promote watching George? Might bring a smile to a lot of people. Just a thought. :)

  • I watched George's films while I was growing up in the 70's on t.v. When he sang and played the banjo ukulele, I was fixated and felt happy. I still get this feeling watching this clip now. What a legend.

  • i love this :)

  • Can't get enough of these songs, God Bless George, long may you keep going.

  • Does anyone know what tuning he is playing in?

  • @CLASSICMONSTERGUY95 hay u so right

  • This is just so funny i can't stop listening to this. The only thing funny in music today are those who think they can entertain, and fail.

  • i can kinda play that solo, not as good as the king though

  • :^D Lovely <3 This!
