In Halo 2, the game started to use what they call "shared caches". Basically, it'd be a cache (ie, map) file with all the main assets which are used in pretty much every map. The resources (eg, models, bitmaps, etc) are stored once in this shared cache and all other maps, including later DLC, could just reference it, cutting down on the cache file size.

This is just me messing around in the shared cache. Since by default the shared cache is unplayable, all it is, is just a box bsp with all the objects placed in it. In this video you can even see a VERY early Falcon (the Falcon finally made its debut in Halo Reach)

The MP Alpha was circa June 2004

  • That looks like a Sabre.

  • @Lol8922 Yeah, now that you mention it, it sorta does. However, in the game's data it was defined as a "falcon".
