When life gives you lemons
Up at 3am, leave Vail with John, Leah and literally a fully packed car of gear and luggage, arrive at Denver International 5:30am, wait in line, check bags, wait in line, wait in line, arrive at gate C46 at 6:34am for my 6:35am nonstop flight to san diego, watch my plane from gate window parked outside for at least 5 minutes while the very courteous man employed by southwest tells me I cannot board. Panting from my full on sprint to the gate, guitar and ukulele in hand, it all sets in that Ive actually missed my flight. First time EVER missing a flight The reality sets in further as the sleepy southwest man breaks it down for mewell get you to vegas on the next flight and hopefully you can sneak on one of the planes to san diego from there. While pondering whether or not I should stay in vegas for a fun little weekend, I realize Leah and John are still at the airport waiting to catch their own flights to their next adventures. Wait, could we have one last adventure together???! a quick iphone transaction and within 5 minutes we are together again at Gate C38 for one last jam 7am singing Its Always the Best Day of My Life for the other early birds at the airport, knowing full well that i have a full day ahead of me of waiting in airports on the 2nd of January 2010 (fyi first time i typed the new year out) and flying off to unknown cities in hopes to make it home
After our amazing, unplanned 10 minute reunion, Im now sitting here on this surprisingly comfy black airport chair loving the fact that I have a whole day to myself while in transit. There is something very amazing about this kind of alone time. I decide to turn off my phone and opt out of taking advantage of the free wifi and just beDisconnected. Alone. Internal. Reflective. Oh the wonders of people watching, journaling, reading, thinking, remembering, looking at photos from past adventures, pondering, listening to whatever tunes Pandora wants to play me, planning my 3 week cleanse upon return home, observing, thinking about the new year and how 2010 is going to be amazing. Im actually appreciative and thankful to have missed my flight and have this time to take a deep breathe.
Pertty good. I'll expect to see you on TV someday.
