Get a glimpse of the Muslim community on the island of Jamaica and some of the Muslim places of worship. As the fastest growing faith in the world, there are also an increasing number of individuals in Jamaica embracing the Faith of Islam. Learn how Islam actually has a very long history on the island.
There are three or four other Masjids (places of worship) not seen on these videos.
Footage was taken Jul. and Aug. '10. Audio tracks (without instruments) are from Muslim Belal, Abdullah Rolle, Mecca 2 Medina, No Beats Necessary, Ahmad Bukhatir and Sh. Mishary al-Afasi.

  • What the guy is saying at 13:00 is not correct for several reasons:

1- He is talking about slaves from Africa in a very generival way, giving for granted that African slaves were a uniform group. That is totally wrong as slaves came from all over the West African area (what is today Senegal, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Nigeria ect), this included different ethnic groups such as the Wolof, the Dan, Yoruba, Akan, Igbo.....

  • @koficapoeira Perhaps the percentage he mentioned was too high. There is a scholar at the university of West Indies (Sultana Afoz) who seems to have done extensive research into this topic and if I recall correctly she puts the % of Muslim African slaves brought to the Americas as somewhat lower, although still quite high and significant. In any case, there do seem to be substantial historical facts that have been "left out" of the common narative usually told and new research is refreshing!

  • @koficapoeira Also keep in mind that Islam was widespread across West Africa & during the time European colonization Islam was definitely held within the hearts of many. As such, it's not strange or far-fetched to suppose that many of those taken were indeed of Muslim faith. Yes, African slaves were taken from a wide range of peoples & tribes, however, Islam transcends such boundaries. My father is Asante from Ghana, however, among them are Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, etc.

  • @koficapoeira

"Thousands of mu’minun of African descent belonging to the Islamic nations of Mandinka, Fula, Susu, Ashanti and Hausa worked as slaves on the plantations in Jamaica. Approximately 57% of the enslaved African arrivants came from Muslim areas. The presence of Islam among the slaves is revealed through autobiographical pieces written in Arabic by the Muslim slaves and accounts left by His Majesty’s officials, plantation historians and British travellers".

  • whats the artist of the first song

  • I've been to that masjid in Ocho Rios, it's above Mr. Tyre.

  • I love the voice of the muadhin, he somehow reminds me of Bilals story radiyAllahu anhu, The sahaba used to say they were better versed in the Arabic language, but Rasululah salalahualayhiwasalam chose sayyiduna Bilal because his voice was so powerful, when he would give adhan everyone in Madinah heard.

  • Masha'Allah! Thank you sooo much for this!

  • Origin of all west Indians is from Islam and from Muslim Africa. Everyone should go back to their roots & islam.
