I have always found the commentary on one of my most favourite movies to be very interesting. Not only can one further appreciate the film, its details, his inspirations, and motivations of its creator, but also may be able to learn from, and be inspired by him as well.
I had tried using ripping and splitting programs, but I am SO computer inept, I had such a hard time and was unable to rip the commentary part (so obviously the only thing I own in relation to this awesome movie, is my prized copy of it my brother had bought for me... I WISH I owned more!! :) but this video camera recording looks a lot better than I thought it would. Just do me a favour and don't complain about it's quality. If someone doesn't like the quality of video camera-recorded movies, they don't have to watch this. My main focus was getting the audio rather than the visual quality anyway. I had recorded this in my basement where it's the most quietest place so that's why you might hear creaking floorboards or hammering-like sounds, which is my dog scratching himself.
This commentary came from an old version of the dvd. I believe in the most recent release, it is not included.
I had decided include subtitles in case one wishes to 'watch' the movie itself.

  • hey thanks for uploading this Readyforthe80's what dvd is this off of i know there is like 3 dvd's of this film out there

  • @entertainmentguy1984 - Hi, you're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to write your thank you! :) This is from the first dvd. It's just a head shot of Ferris on the case with his hands behind his head and says widescreen across the top (I believe). I don't have the dvd with me now as it's at my parents' house, but I'm almost 100% sure that the description on the back of the case actually says that the commentary is on the disc.

  • THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS UP!!!! IF I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND WATCH ALL THESE AWESOME OLD MOVIES I WOULD BUT I CAN'T SO I GO NUTS LOOKING FOR THEM!! and any way thanks :D

  • @teenkid100 - You're very welcome! Thank you for taking the time to leave your comment! :D Oh, I wish we could go back to the 80s too!

  • This is great hearing the commentary for one of my favorite films. I like hearing commentaries for many of my favorite films like the ones by John Waters. Commentaries to me makes the film more interesting.

  • thank you

  • @DoctorMeatDic This is the only way this video can be uploaded without youtube taking it down. better than nothing...

  • dreadful quality, really dreadful

  • Great commentary. This was the first film commentary I ever watched. Thought it was amazing, all it did was set me up for disappointment. No other commentary has come close to this.

  • Also, it added to the experience to have the subtitles. Good idea.

I laughed out loud when I read what you wrote on the screen about there being another copy on YouTube without talking. "Find it." I could just hear Ferris' voice saying that. Thank you for taking me back to a very magical time in my life. John Hughes means the world to me. He can always take us back to the eighties.

  • a few written questions on one other occasion. I also learned that he had his commentary removed after the DVD was released in 1999 so that it couldn't be used in future copies so I am so thankful you shared it with us. I saw this in the summer before 9th grade and actually remember being in the theatre and where I was sitting with my best friend. We laughed so hard that we had go back to see it two more times because we missed so much from the laughter. I am feeling so nostaligic right now

  • This is my very first YouTube comment, and I registered just so I could thank you for posting this. I am technologically challenged as well, so I think you did a very good job with it. I watched all eight of the sections and enjoyed it so much. It is fascinating to get inside the mind of the elusive late John Hughes. I did a little research today and found out this was one of the only "interviews"(even though it wasn't an interview) he ever did, it is the closest thing we have. He answered
