Jesse - Jay-Z ft. Linkin Park - Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer (Drum Cover)

And a happy Festivus to all! (2 things, first - I know this song has nothing to do with the holidays, and second - if you don't know what Festivus is, Google it!). Here's my most recent addition to my drum covers. This is definitely the most produced of them yet, but I did do this all in one day with 3 hours spent at a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game in between. I had fun and this song is just a blast to rock out to. The mix came down to a few plug-in's I'm getting a better hang of. I'm getting closer to the mix that I want. I just figured out Superior Drummer 2.0 and how to set my drums up through that software so soon I should have either a drum solo, a friend doing a drum solo, or a drum cover using that software.

The kit I'm playing is a Jobeky Electronic Drums Cobus Potgieter SDG kit... sort of. We modified it to suit my style with bigger shells and dual-triggers all the way around the kit (head and rim, basically) and stained/painted it instead of giving it a wrap finish, but I will tell you right now they're base model kits trigger JUST as well as my kit does. The only difference in their high end Prestige line as well as custom order kits is the look, they're made with the same triggers, by the same person, with the same amount of care. Colin is a great craftsmen and it's really nice to be able to get ahold of the owners/main employees of the company when you need something fixed. For example, currently in this video if you look carefully my bass drum is tilted to my right from behind the kit. Well that's because my drum leg broke (mass produced parts = bound to happen sometimes). Jobeky is great because they got a new leg in the mail from the UK to my house in the US only a matter of a few days after I contacted them. As for the rest of this long description (as usual), I guess I don't have much to say. Let me know what you think about the cameras (and if you like the shaking? the overhead is on a studio boom mic stand arm with a rigged Manfrotto 3-D Junior head attached to the end so it's pretty out there to reach over the kit and I'm doing what I can to minimize shaking but let me know if you guys like it), the audio mix (what needs to come up/down, any additional plug-in's you recommend trying), or just video in general. I threw a film grain look with some luma adjustments through Color in the Final Cut Studio suite of programs I have and I just thought it gave it a nice little eerie touch, especially since the raw footage was pretty washed out from the daylight coming in from the surrounding windows.

Also, I should be working on a video of my recording set-up along with a basic tutorial of your options when it comes to recording. From simple to complex I'll try to cover the basics of it all.
