  • Hi Sadie, thanks for writing. I have always had hip issues, one leg slightly shorter/years of ballet. My approach has been to keep them limber; why I was so excited about these stretches which go deeper than what I was doing. The pain is deep in the hip joint and radiates down the leg to the knee. 14 days later and it is way better. The thing I figured out is I need more strength- which is why I commented here...I think some of us with great stretch forget that. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • hi there,

It sounds like sciatic nerve pain, which radiates. That it's in your knee means that the L5 and/or S1 nerve root has been compressed. From years of ballet, is your piriformis tight, that is, is Pigeon Pose challenging for you, or not? That muscle can compress the nerve as well. Tight or overstrong lower back muscles can also pull on the sacrum and spine and cause compression. (continued)...

  • Pain that goes deep into the hip and radiates is most likely this nerve, and not necessarily because of a stretch. Just make sure you check this out so you get to the foundation of your issue. Sadie

  • I approached these stretches with great excitement. Today, I am on day 9 of bed rest and walking with crutches due to severe hip pain. It has been a very enlightening experience. I have a great stretch (ex dancer) but I don't have the strength I used to have. Just want to share this w/ anyone who may have the stretch, but not the strength. I am already working on strength building as I heal. Sadie- any words of wisdom... 9 days supine is no fun... but was a valuable lesson.

  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're in pain!

Do you know what's causing it? then I can offer you more...Sounds like a connective tissue damage to me, if it's deep in the hip, and from years of dancing. That can destabilize CT, and leave you vulnerable to such things. Simple strengthening excercise, like with feet on the bed, lift and lower your hips as if into Bridge Pose. When you get up, practice Chair Pose with your back at the wall, and Tree Pose to promote stability over stretch. xosadie

  • I made it, tough I never thouhgt. I could! :D And it was such a great feeling afterwards!! Thank you, Sadie. :)

  • Thanks, charlie and Enna....glad you tried it! xoSadie

  • Thank you for this reminder. I learned some of these in yoga class. have been having discomfort lately and am glad for this video

  • Can you do a video on how to keep your hips squared when doing the splits because i am confuzed!

  • Can root canals have a holistic route to parts of the back ?

    32 teeth, 32 vetebrae ?

  • Sadie, I am loving your videos. I wonder if you can point me to the best ones for the inner pelvic floor muscles. Not kegel-like, though. I have had a lot of pudendal nerve pain and internal physical therapy has worked wonders. They stretch all those internal ligaments and coccyx bone. Any thoughts?
