A pendulum clock escapement devised by w. nicholson. It is a pseudo-gravity escapement because the escapewheel only assists in lifting the two gravity arms, which start and end their motion from exactly the same position. It impulses the pendulum because the gravity arm lift is assisted by the escapewheel, reducing the weight, whereas the gravity arm fall is not. This escapement is discussed in philip woodward's book "my own right time".

  • Very nicely done! How do the gravity arms lock the escape wheel? Is it just the weight of the arm itself?

  • Again elegant and deceivingly simple. What a production!
