To aerate and over-seed your lawn, run the aerator over the lawn to open up the soil, fill a fertilizer spreader with grass seed, and run the spreader over the yard several times. Run the wheels of a fertilizer spreader over the lawn to bed down the seeds before watering, and consider advice from a professional landscaper in this free video on gardening and lawn care.
@bigbillbob88 Actually, roots do need to breathe although not nearly as much as leaves. This is why trees like to grow around rocks in the soil and why roots die and rot in water. Water based plants (like mangroves) develop aerial root to combat such problems.

The grass blade gets its air from the roots which comes from the soil. FYI.

Hey, you said that the airater creats holes for the roots to breath just to let you know roots dont breath the part of a grassling that breaths is the grass leaf (i.e the part we see) its the same as trees

@thebertie
Our lawn mower has aerated and overseed our lawn about 3 weeks ago, in late October: it is now Novermber and weather is going to be sunny and around 60F and low of 35F; is is OK for me to overseed again? I had bought some good seeds while back and would like to use them. please advise

@lawnmowerguy11 - you can aerate any time as long as there is no frost forecast.

@tritonvee10 The gentleman gave some good information. After reading your comment, I can see what you mean. LOL. I think it's the bright orange shirt that gave it away.
