Chinese leadership gets nervous even if somebody farts harder in Tibet and East Turkestan (Xinjiang) . Chinese cannot push it under the carpet. World is watching.
Every time some uprising happens in Tibet, East Turkestan and other restive areas, thousands of minorities die.
India knows Chinese leadership problems at home. It is the reason why, BJP government went out of its way and said that Tibet is an integral part of China.

but Chinese leaders have become more nervous since the recent uprisings during Olympics in Tibet and protests by Tibetans all over the world.
India has a huge Tibetan population waiting for an opportunity to humiliate Chinese leadership.
Dalai lama sitting in India also doesn't go down well with China. They think that Dalai Lama is instigating violence. Chinese paranoia about Tibet continues.
It is the reason why China claims southern Tibet or Arunachal Pradesh.

but for China, incursions are part of negotiations. They would like to keep up the pressure on India, so that India would cede part or full of claimed territory just like Pakistan did in 1963. (Pakistan ceded 35000 km of kashmir to China)
Well, India is not Pakistan. We are not cowards. We fight !!
There cannot be a limited war between two major nuclear powers.
China likes to achieve its objectives smoothly but India can guarantee MAD (Mutually assured destruction)

Nobody likes to lose territory. I think 1947 partition of India was the worst. We lost territory without a fight. This is where many people still dislike Gandhi even though he opposed partition. If he had locked up Jinnah and suffocated him to death, Pakistan would not have happened in the first place. Gandhi was begging, instead. Please don't divide the country, I'll fast myself to death. Gandhi thought that his fasting threat would be taken seriously like the British.

But unfortunately, Gandhi was dealing with bunch of brainwashed Muslim leaders who had gone rogue, who did not believe in secularism, who did not believe in unity and democracy. Gandhi was too soft on them.
To make matters worse, Jinnah fool died 6 months after partition. Even British did not expect that. I wouldn't have accepted Jinnah's proposal, if I had know that he was dying. (Lord Mountbatten)
