Calvary Church is getting ready to launch Monvee and are currently looking for 50 people to join us in using it and getting it ready for a public launch at the end of January 2010.
Reading through the comments explains why Christians are often disdained in the non-Christain world. The "I know what's best for everyone & I am right" attitude flies in the face of an off-the-wall creative God who has such a great sense of humor that he made so many different formulations of man. What a hoot! He's even crazy about stick-in-the-mud types! So way to go Monvee. The comments prove your premise: each of us connect with God and scripture in our own crazy way. Thanks for knowing that!
3... Sorry, but that 'rarely' works. Who is to say that the Holy Spirit cannot work through Monvee. If this "tool" not "Bible" helps people learn spiritual disciplines like reading the Bible and serving and ultimately helps draw people closer to Christ then how can you say it is "from the Devil?"
2. ...To me, it seems, is that Monvee is not trying to replace reading the Bible, Prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit. Rather, they are trying help people find out HOW to read the Bible and seek the Holy Spirit. I know too many people who just throw a Bible in somebody's hand and say, "Just accept Christ and read this!"...
1. Read the Bible! Pray! Yes, these are very true. But all to typical responses from well-intentioned Christians who are unwilling to take it to the next step and answer to question, "How?" Or, "Where do I start?" Why is it that after many people accept Christ into their lives they are left for dead with no help and guidance from those around them?...
So here it is... I appreciate how you all are aware of the self-centeredness (yeah, call Webster - its a word), but isn't our role as Christians to make disciples of all people? And since all people will not find or closer to Christ by following an identical path (just look at Peter, Mary Magdalene, and Paul for proof), we should encourage different paths to finding Christ, and isn't this what this project is promoting?
This turning spiritual discernment into a computer program is tantamount to blasphemy. But that's par for the seeker sensitive/purpose driven/emergent/ cult of church-innovation movement.
This is like a joke! The further the church strays away from what God has revealed in Scripture, the more she will become totally apostate. Marketing and technology can do nothing for a person to know God. He is not glorified with this type of worldly wisdom. Repent and die to self is the message, and Christ will be formed in you. The reason people are not experiencing the power of God is because they lack self denial, not because they don't have a nifty plan for "spiritual renewal."
