CCleaner can actually corrupt your system registry if you don't know enough about what it's doing.

One thing that would make your computer faster is to not run gadgets in WIndows Vista or Windows 7. Another is to run a theme such as Windows Basic. Another is to simply use a solid color background rather than a picture/slide show.  All that said, Defraggler does a decent job at defragging - better than the one built-in to Windows XP, Vista or 7.
