I love Rainbow Road. It's my favorite level from Super Mario Kart and pretty much every Mario Kart game it's been featured in. That's why when King Meteor (http://www.youtube.com/user/KingMeteorStudios) of VGMusic fame made a remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HBBqZxyDPE) of the song using the Ultimate Megadrive soundfont, I was pretty psyched! I really loved the arrangement he made, but I felt that with a better soundscape it could sound even better. 10 minutes after receiving an email with the MIDI as an attached file, I got to work. These are the results.

When I listened to the original remix, I got a super 80s vibe from the bassline; this ended up being the inspiration for my take on the arrangement. I picked an FM bass fairly similar to the instrument used in his version and followed up with some oldschool synth brass for the chords. I made sure to maintain this "retro" vibe the whole way through. It ended up turning out really cool! Here's hoping you guys feel the same. :)

  • Joint best Rainbow Road remix ever, only because it's the same song from KM lol.

  • @tomatzu Indeed it is! If you look at his video I asked if I could make a high quality render of it. This is that render. It seems people are under the impression that I made this entirely on my own--I didn't! Proper credit for this wonderful arrangement (and many others) goes to the original author, King Meteor.

Mind you, I've made my fair share of remixes, but in this case I simply put polish on something that was already very fantastic sounding. Please give credit where it is due.
