hi where u bought i ram?
-
with linux you can use your normal system memory as a ram drive for free, which performs even faster. the only downside is you can't boot off the memory itself
-
Personally how fast is a single iRam since I am looking for a easy way out when it comes to page file?
-
Playing with Windows Media player is not a proof of realtime! You CAN excange audio line and you can play it slower/faster (see extensions!)
-
what is I-RAM ???
-
you definitely do not need a raid card, you should be able to run any form of RAID that is out there. the reason some people like to use RAID cards is because certain RAID cards offer a small performance boost over the built in RAID card. but with the new ich10r chipset, there is so little performance increase, its just a waste of money to get a RAID card unless you were connecting like 8 SSD's
-
you don't but it uses the computers cpu power. a raid card has it's own cpu onboard.
so how do u install windows on just 4gb of storage.. i don't get this iram thing.. some1 explain plz
thanks

@madzane94,
With XP, you can install it, OR : You install onto a hard drive then you "Ghost it" et restore the image onto the i-ram...
For Win Seven, i actually use 4 i-rams (4x4 MB) -> 16GB, so i use 2x Hard drives in raid 0 to install Windows Seven, then i clean unsused files, save the image and restore onto Raid 0 I-rams !
Speed and access times are impressive :)
Last thing : I know that SSD become Cheaper than I-ram but remember that I-rams have access times twice faster than SSD...

Have you had any problems with the ram drives? I was considering buying some for our test lab to run some server applications

Hi, No problem with iram (except that batteries keep my OS alive for 10 hours now (more before)).
I still have 5 irams plugged in my rr2320 controler.
I bought my first iram 2 years ago and i still love it.
Iram is perfect for server applications (small files access or really short access times).

Defrag on a I-ram is useless lol.
There's litterally no accestime involved so why bother moving the files around.

Just to show you how fast access times are... ;)
Moving hundreds files takes few secondes.
