This was a Southern Strong Hold during the Civil War. In fact they were still fighting here when the war had already been declared over. My Wife's Great Uncle was Clonal Lamb who ran the fort. If you visit here you will see her mothers maiden name all over the place, in fact you can see some pictures of Alyson's Grandmother.. How crazy is that. it is a 5 minute drive for us to make it to Wrightsville Beach, It is about a 20-30 minute drive to Fort Fisher. But they have the Fort and the Aquarium down at the very end of HWY 40... Even though it is not called HWY 40 at this point... At the other end of 40 California.... But this is almost the very end of the road....
