Michael Moore Goes to Norway & Visits a Prison of the Future

This didn't make it into the film Sicko, but it's well worth seeing.

Michael Moore also visits a much more civilized conceptualization of what we think of as a 'prison'. Given what we know about human behavior and criminology, prisons in the US and many other countries are a scientific and humanitarian embarrassment.

What madness is this? Treating human beings like human beings with dignity and respect? How could a human possibly change their behaviour under such conditions and rebecome productive members of society? No, they should definitely be outcasts, berated, humiliated, emotionally and mentally torn apart, stripped of all respect, dignity and worth in order for them to know what wrong they've done. Only then can they truly atone for their misdeeds and rejoin normal human populations. Right guys? Guys?

No, but I do not think you should consider what the offender deserves as judiciary reaction at all. Only what society deserves without irrational lust for revenge or punishment.
