@AlfredStateDMA I'll just say this,If I wanted to go to med school to learn to be a surgeon am I going to be happy getting tutored by someone who has never sutured a wound? Probably not.As far as getting high qaulity industry jobs go,Student Reels are the touchstone for employers. All that counts is the reel at the end of the day.If the Reels are poor quality someone is failing in their duties. The classroom experience,no matter how fun or free counts for little if you can't get a job.
This will be my last response but some people do go to school to be teachers. Some would rather choose to teach than go into the industry. More fun, more freedom. You cannot judge a professor on school based solely off youtube videos. But, you are entitled to your opinion. But maybe you should ask to see the full facts and statistics before trying to bash upstate NY schools.
@AlfredStateDMA Hmm, but your own Animation Professor's Linked-in profile suggest he has never darkened the doorway of a real studio and in fact entered the Alfred program straight out of school (RIT) And once again, the quality of Alfred student work on Youtube seems to fundamentally contradict the above statement.Sure,if you aim low one or two might get low grade jobs in advertising but that's not why students enter animation,I'm sure.
Actually, western NY and ALL of it's schools do a fantastic job preparing students for the industry. We currently have students working advertising, promotions, games, and other media outlets. Most of the schools have a lot in common whether it be a state or private institution. They all have great equipment, contacts, and most of all, dedicated, knowledgeable professors who know what they are doing. Every program is different but they all have the same goal, to educate and prepare students.
No offense to the students concerned but animation education in Western NY really misses the mark big time and sadly this video speaks to that fact.I hear Daemen College are looking to establish a new kick-ass,industry relevant program with real pros teaching.Education institutes do a major disservice by taking peoples money and NOT giving them a sound education with employment prospects.Compare the work here with Animation Mentor for example. ( a 2 year program).Oranges and apples!
