  • Your example 3 is interesting because it seems that Michael is favored by most voters (Michael has 75% of 1,2 rank, Cindy has 65% 1,2) and 75% favor Michael over Chuck.

The voice of the people is not represented here when Cindy wins.

Funny, a major reason IRV is promoted is they say the peoples choice is elected in one race.

There is now big opposition in cities using IRV I just typed stop instant runoff voting in google and a lot popped up. The Cary, NC incident is interesting.....

  • Typing stop Instant runoff voting provides a great deal of information from across the US.

Cary NC stopped using IRV since it didnt live up to its claims. Only one town in NC is using it. See new links at end of video.

Aspen has a vote in November asking if they want IRV scrapped after a failed attempt. See new links at end of video.

Prof. Glerzynski (U of VT) wrote a nice report on the failures of IRV in Burlington, VT. See new links at end of video.

    Lots to learn about IRV.

  • Walabio, while I agree that Range voting is the far superior system, it should really be a range of 0 to 99. Negatives add unnecessary complexity and remove the ability to scale between different ranges. There is also an advantage to having an even number of points (no midpoint). Check out the CRV's Why99 page, point 13. There should also be blanks, to express no opinion, with a quorum rule. The reasons for this can be found on the Blanks page.

  • A much better system is Rangevoting. Basically. one scores the candidates from -99 (maximum opposition) to +99 (maximum support). Just decide whom one hates most and give that one -99 and whom one loves most and give that on +99. Score the other candidates relative to these 2.

At the end of the election, add the scores for the candidate with the greatest score wins. It is that simple.

Rangevoting is clone resistant, so one never has favored betrayal and spoilers.
