First of all if the gun malfunctions at one shot it doesn't mean that it will malfunction at the second or any further shot.
Second, if your revolver contains 6 slots for 6 bullets and you have only 5 bullets in there you can pull the trigger once and nothing happens but every other time you pull the trigger the weapon fires.
Third, you can't know if the man has another gun or a knife or maybe he is a master in material arts, etc.
So you are right, you are not half as smart as me !

@PornobrillenAli No, they couldn't have got shot because the gun malfunctioned or didn't have bullets. You see, when the gun doesn't go off or it has no bullets then bullets can't be fired and people can't be shot. But nevermind that, I'm not half as smart as you are. Thumbs up if you agree.
