EDWIN MOSES WINS THE GOLD MEDAL - 1976 OLYMPIC GAMES IN MONTREAL, CANADA

Edwin Corley Moses (born 31 August 1955) is an American track and field Olympic Icon who won gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics. Between 1977 and 1987, in what is now renown as "The Streak", Edwin Moses won 107 consecutive finals (122 consecutive races) and set the world record, breaking his own record four times. A record that still has not been broken. In addition to his running, Moses was also an innovative reformer in the areas of Olympic eligibility and drug testing.

In 2000, he was elected the first Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a position he still holds. Laureus is an international organization of world class athletes who use sports as a tool for social change. In his position with Laureus, Moses is a Global Ambassador committed to making the world a better place for children around the planet, through his involvement in the Laureus Sports For Good Foundation.

  • Damns shame that Edwin couldn't do the triple because of the U.S boycott in 1980

  • This man didn't have a coach or trainer from the time he was in college and all throughout his career. That is unbelieveable. If ever a track and field athlete could be described as a genius, then it would be Ed Moses. His knowledge of conditioning and recovery is what set him apart. He studied ballet to learn to improve his stretching and applied a very scientific approach to his training. He said he saw hurdling as a form of art. He was ahead of his time. A genius!

  • At 1:34 he clearly steps on the line. He got away with that, but nowadays he would have been disqualified on the spot.

  • Shine ran a great race from Lane One...toughest lane to run the hurdles from...

The color man in the commentary is none other than O.J. Simpson...

  • Mike Shine was from a High School where his class size was probably about 80-100 kids, little Youngsville PA, and won silver behind the great Edwin Moses. Way to go Mike! Years later, we still remember, and are proud!

  • what a sick finish from moses, epic performance!!

  • In 1988 Moses finished third, the Senegalese guy who finished second must have been thrilled to beat the Babe Ruth of his event.

  • @jcollinsify good spot. as you say glad they didn't spot it. Shame Aki bua was boycotted in 76. Would have been great showdown. Shame Moses boycotted in in 80 - would have been a walkover !
