I remember this fly over, I was on the the TR in HS-3, and these F-14's were VF-31 and VF-213.

Was stationed aboard Independence '72. They brought this new type plane aboard under some serious secrecy. Strapped it to the hangar bay deck and put gyros on it , and two Marines around it. It looked like a damn wasper except cooler. It was the Tomcat.
