The Maspero Massacre | 9/10/11 | What Really Happened

On January 28th 2011 millions of Egyptians took to the street and crushed the police forces that for years had oppressed, imprisoned and tortured its citizens. That same night the Egyptian armed forces took over the vacuum left by the police apparatus. While claiming to serve the revolution and protect Egypt, the military began arresting people from protests, torturing them and court martialling them.

One of those incidences was on October 9th 2011 when thousands of protesters peacefully marched on the Maspero TV tower demonstrating against the military's silence over the burning of a church and the armed forces recent attacks on a similar protest a few days earlier. That day the military killed 28 civilians, injured hundreds and arrested 30.

Two days later the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces held a press conference in which they claimed the soldiers had no live ammunition and the tanks at the scene were escaping protesters rather than trying to run them over. Only the protesters were to blame.

Three weeks later the armed forces called twelve civilians for questioning blaming them for the massacre. One of them was Mina Danial - one of the murdered protesters. Another was the blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah, who rejected being heard before a military court, and is now in jail.

As the military has, again, failed to provide any kind of justice, this film has been produced as part of an ongoing civilian investigation.

Le 28 janvier 2011, des millions d'Egyptiens sont descendus dans la rue et ont écrasé la police, qui avait opprimé, emprisonné et torturé les citoyens depuis des années. Cette nuit-là, l'armée égyptienne est venue combler le vide laissé par la police. Tout en prétendant servir la révolution et protéger l'Egypte, les militaires ont commencé à arrêter des manifestants, à les torturer et à les faire juger par des tribunaux militaires.

Un de ces incidents a eu lieu le 9 octobre 2011, quand des milliers de manifestants ont marché pacifiquement vers la tour de la télévision publique à Maspero, dénonçant le silence de l'armée sur l'incendie volontaire d'une église, et l'agression par les forces armées contre des personnes manifestant contre ce fait, quelques jours auparavant.
Ce jour-là, les militaires ont tué 28 civils, en ont blessé des centaines et en ont arrêté 30.

Deux jours plus tard, le Conseil suprême des Forces armées a tenu une conférence de presse lors de laquelle il a prétendu que les soldats n'étaient pas armés de balles réelles et que les blindés avaient simplement cherché à fuir les manifestants, pas à les écraser. Seuls les manifestants étaient en tort, a affirmé le CSFA.

Trois semaines plus tard, les forces armées ont convoqué 12 civils pour interrogatoire, et leur ont imputé la responsabilité du massacre. Parmi eux, on compte Mina Danyal, l'un des manifestants assassinés et le bloggeur Alaa Abd el-Fattah, qui a refusé d'être entendu par un tribunal militaire et se trouve maintenant en prison.

Puisqu'une fois de plus, les militaires n'ont rendu justice d'aucune manière, ce film a été élaboré dans le cadre d'une enquête civile qui est toujours en cours.
