Alpha King
Three Floyds
6.0% ABV
Beer Geek Nation Rating: A
Beer Advocate Rating: A
Rate Beer Rating: 100/100

Alpha King is of the most sessionable pale ales you will ever come across. A hop heads dream of an American pale ale. Three Floyds really took the pale ale and flipped it on its head for this beer. Just an outstanding beer that is a must try.

  • Alpha King is a decent beer that is a cross between a pale and an IPA...you will not be disappointed with Alpha King

  • @davidrcoulter Agreed its a really nice balance between the 2 styles

  • why do you say 6 % when on there site and at the brewpub they say 6.5ABV?....

  • @Niksti7 It might vary a bit between batches. That is probably what happened here

  • Had it a couple of weeks ago up in Chicago... the more I think about it the more I miss it, man. Your review was spot on. Where do you get it online? I'd climb mountains for this beer, man. It truly is fantastic. I had it right alongside an IPA (a good one, too--Bell's Two Hearted Ale) and it's true, Alpha King tastes very much like another IPA. But I liked Alpha King better because it's got a nutty, slightly toasted character to it that balances the piney hoppiness spectacularly.

  • @AlvinHDavernport Plus Alpha King is like 4% so its a really great session beer. The place I get it actually went out of business! So I havent had it in forever!

  • OMG when you said "EGGSHELL khaki white" you made me remember about the weirdest thing in my trip to Philadelphia in 2006...I'm from Italy, I have hens and their eggs are definitely NOT white :-)

Anyway I'd like to try some Three Floyds stuff (love their artworks!) but it seems like we're not getting any here in Italy (at least where I live). When are you going to review something from the other side of the Atlantic?

    Cheers man, keep it up!

  • @AlvinHDavernport midwest has great selection of awesome brews. chicago is the best.

  • @BeerGeekNation Shame! I mean, it's not like there aren't other great beers out there, but Alpha King really is something special and I would really like to be able to have it more often. We don't get Bells, Goose Island, Founders or Three Floyds down here in Texas, and that's kind of killing me. Where do you live, by the way?

And yes, that's one of the many qualities of Alpha King. Nothing about it stops you from having a second or third one once you start drinking!
