The Hunger Games starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson is reviewed by Christy Lemire (AP critic and host of Ebert Presents At the Movies, check your local PBS listings) Grae Drake (Movies.com), Alonso Duralde (TheWrap.com and Linoleum Knife podcast) and Matt Atchity (Editor-in-chief Rottentomatoes.com).

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. -- (C) Lionsgate

The Hunger Games novels are an adaptation of the Japanese novel/film Battle Royal.

the romance scene wasn't believable it looked forced katniss seemed as though she saved peters life because he was a good person not because she loved him in the book she did love peter but the movie failed to capture the romance scenes katniss didn't seem to give a shit about peter i know at the begining she did it to get sponsored but at the end it still seemed like she did it for appearances

I'm surprised at the very positive scores it got here but everyones taste is different of course. I thought the movie had very stereotypical characters, a few cheesy moments and just felt a bit too "dumbed down" for my taste. Interesting concept though.

Im kinda surprised that this book didn`t get banned in America. It`s pretty stupid to make a movie out of it because people start to relaize what the book was all about. :D
