Are they packing their muskets with more gunpower than necessary (possibly to make them louder)? It seems unlikely that a row of soldiers in old times would aim something that had such dangerous recoil, so I'm assuming that they are using much more gunpowder than normal.

Yes, some of the muskets are overloaded to make a louder sound. The muskets are however just like similar guns used in the civil war. Imagine having to load one of these with someone shooting at you.:(

I would like to thank you so much for putting these on here. My dad passed away in 2002 and we were shooters for as long as i remember. i haven't been back since and this brought tears to my eyes. those looks like the old kind of guns,,you know the ones of the civil war....i never tough the this kind of guns were that powerful...its funny how they hold the gun,,,im mexican but i would like to go to one of those celebrations over there..in mexico we celebrate almost the same but over there we use any kind of gun and right exactly at 12:00 in the morning of the 25 of december we start shooting to the sky.its a tradition too...good video...

My mom just watched the video and told me that the man I seen and thought was my father was not him.

My father was a shooter befor I was born, he just started back shooting in 07, we missed 08, but he and I both shot in 09. This year was my first time shooting. I miss fired a few times, but other than that and the cold it went great. My dad can be seen in this video at 5:15 and at the stadium.
