Here is a very interesting "art film" from Russia. Dziga Vertov's "The Man with a Movie Camera" is considered one of the most innovative and influential films of the silent era. Startlingly modern, this film utilizes a groundbreaking style of rapid editing and incorporates innumerable other cinematic effects to create a work of amazing power and energy. This is a powerful, totally visual film without title cards, actors or storyline. Released: September 8, 1929

    kind regards,

  • The Alloy Orchestra

  • Fine film. It's nice to see how Russia looked during that time. Interesting that the film came out the same time as "Un Chien Andalou".

  • "Un Chien Andalou"...another of my favorites!

  • According to IMDB, this version of the film with music by the Alloy Orchestra follows the written instructions from the director, Dziga Vertov. The Alloy music is in my opinion much more in sync with the images and style of the film than the jazz version. Here, when the music gets going, it is at times

reminiscent of Prokofiev and very exciting.

  • vertov (the director of this movie) believed that film could reproduce the reality exactly and because you could edit that reality, it had the power to manipulate people. this idea also called "kingo-glaz" which is cinema-eye.

  • @SiriusIsNotDead1989 that comment was a joke. haha Though I still think it was a terrible choice of music. But thank you for the insight.

  • @bboydee sorry to inform you, but silent movies were not intendet to be silent, in every movie theatre there was a orchestra to accompany the film with music. and of course it makes no sense, it is an experimental film. In the original titles (sadly they are not shown here) he acctually declares that this should not be narrative at all. It is a try to establish internatinal film technique. This movie was an imprtant step to the montage you see today in almost every movie!

  • this is not the entire film

  • @PXTMhybrid Me too... But I don't quite understand how it's a documentary?
