Sadly, no. The tourists were pretty much assholes and kept yelling at the ranger to kill the bear. Too bad the ranger didn't shoot the tourists instead. They were some real rude characters and were swearing at and practically threatening the ranger. Their death certainly wouldn't have been a loss for the world, if you know what I mean :).

@clancg2003, Did the ranger do investigation before the put down the mama bear? Should have proof, etc to find fact first. Those lying tourists sure will pay the price in life from lying & got that bear to b killed. They killed not only a mama bear, but more like killing her cub too because a young cub have a hard life without mom.

Thats really wonderful the way she manages and walking upright is a lot better, than not walking at all! Its terrible that she lost a limb,but she still has a lot of life in her and can teach all the things that she knows to her cub. They are both very sweet! Thank you very much for sharing!

people want to kill them if they get anywhere near their property. I remember I was at Yosemite a couple of years ago and some dumb tourists approached a black bear and her cubs and were bluff charged by her. The bear didn't even come close to touching them, yet these tourists claimed to the ranger that they were attacked by it. Unfortunately, the bear ended up getting shot thanks to their stupid lie, and I'm sure the cubs starved to death. Some people just have no respect for nature.

Hey there, I feel for you. That's totally messed up. I'm guessing the trapper probably lied and made up some bogus story about you to get you in trouble. Some people are just mean SOB's. And yes, you are correct about these types of traps being very inhumane. Unlike grizzlies, black bears are very docile creatures that almost never attack humans. Unfortunately there's just so much fear surrounding them (due to the fact that they share the name bear with grizzlies) that people

It's going to need to change shoes, though, being it changed from like a 12 foot shoe to a 5 inch shoe and lost the spot on it's left shoulder someone. How many edits are possible too? Real or not, worthy of being on the news!
