More and more garages all over the country are offering conversion services that can turn your hybrids into plug ins that can get up to 200 miles per gallon. The conversions involve the replacement of the Hybrid's battery with a lead acid or lithiun ion pack, and installing the proper electronics that enable the batteries to be charged from an ordinary wall socket. This is the same type of technology being developed by Chevy Volt and the new Toyota Prius. While those companies are a couple years away from a plug in, garages like the Advanced Vehicle Research Center in Raleigh, North Carolina or Luscious Garage in San Francisco, California can do the conversion for you. The conversion kits start at 5,000 dollars. That's probably why only 200 people throughout the country have converted their hybrids into plug ins so far, but for the people who have done it, it's about the environment and not about the money. The second generation Toyota Prius is the easiest car to convert, but the garages can convert Ford Escape hybrids or almost any car currently on the road for an extra fee. If you want to be the first person on your block to own a plug in electric, and you have the extra cash, call a conversion dealer today and impress all your friends. Or you can always wait two years and buy a plug in from Chevy or Toyota. I'm Elizabeth Chambers. Check back here for more eco friendly news and tips, right here on LivingGreenChannel.Com.

  • i'll let you suck my dick straight up

  • Very hard to focus on the topic because Elizabeth is so dam HOT! If all the schools had teachers that looked like her, kids (boys and lesbian girls) would want to go to school and pay extreme attention in class but would learn nothing.

  • @apache4541 Lithium-Ion is costly and not affordable, VRLA Gel based is good and recyclable .

  • Why are the car companies telling the world their plug in products are not available when they really are? If an after market company can convert any hybrid to plug in then we should stop buying gas powered cars. If the little guys can do it the big guys can.

  • big oil & etc will not let electric vehicles exhist for a long time. They tried it once and realized it was a terrible idea for their wallets

  • Any one Else hear the word lead acid battery? the big lie is were waiting on battery technology. the largest fork lift i ever drove was an electric lead acid battery. 33 years ago.

  • @apache4541 : you are full of sh*. I just checked their site and their vehicle rated system takes 5.5 hours to charge. The plates are rated for 20Ah but nothing is said about their amps themselves, but at 3.3v, I'm guessing 30. It also has a 1000 cycle life. Lithium-ion (which A123 produces at nanograde) even at nano still has residual problems. And you posted 7 months ago, I doubt the company got worse over time.

  • Don't they call it a fuel cell?
