  • The Buddhism religion seems more rational. The others with their blackmail and threats are terrible. Thanks Bill and Larry.I will see this movie!

  • the buddhist religion just makes less assumptions that are either wrong or unprovable

it is easy to disprove that the earth is 6000 years old

but it is harder to disprove that ppl are reincarnated etc. so buddhism doesn't look as stupid as christianity

  • Elsewhere I've noticed Bill express admiration for Eastern thought. On Real Time he had Dr. Deepak Chopra on. Chopra outlined his mystical take on things where God is not a personal God, but is an impersonal spiritual mystery. Bill responded to Chopra by saying "I agree with you".

It seems it's the big man in the sky idea, and the "talking snake"-mythology as facts- that Bill most has a problem with, NOT the idea that there may on fact be an aspect to the Universe best termed "spiritual"!

  • precisely

ppl who are agnostic are not anti-religion they are anti-having-low-standards

and u have to have low standards to be gullable enough to believe in religion

but there are certain spiritual philospohies that arn't really doctrines and such so he isn't against that

  • clumping buddhism in with judeo-christian religions is fairly inaccurate in general. buddhists do not believe in a personalized god, in other words - there is not deity in the buddhism world view; Buddha is the universe itself, the collective conciousness of the physical universe. Buddhism also uses empirical methods, attempting repeatability of contemplative and meditative experiences. U see this diff reflected in the type of lives the head individuals of these religions lead, respectively.

  • So, sealhunta, what do you think about my explanation of reincarnation?

  • It is the same with the human body, which after decomposition becomes disintegrated and the elements which composed it are dispersed in this vast space. Some particles of a former individual has entered into the composition of a succeeding individual; but these particles have not been conserved and kept exactly and completely, without addition or diminution so that a person could 'return'.

It would be like returning to the womb over and over in order to expect some change, but none would occur.

  • ...they are completely NEW leaves, blossoms, and fruits. The last season's decomposed crop didn't come back from it's disintegration and gathered up all it's elements of which it was previously composed and return again.

Christianity believes all the dead shall be RECONSTITUTED and returned to earth on judgement day. This is impossible also. There are a finite number of particles on earth. WE are all recycled matter. In our bodies lie renewed particles of other people long decomposed and changed

  • There IS however the repetition of species: the return of material beings with regard to species is evident. Trees which during former years brought forth leaves, blossoms, and fruits, in the coming years will bring forth exactly the same leaves, blossoms, and fruits.

But you can't say that the leaf, blossom, or fruit have been decomposed, descended back down into the mineral world, and have COME BACK to the vegetable world and therefore reincarnated! They have NOT returned. They are...

  • ..cont: they only offer conjecture and imagination. In the sensible world, appearance are not repeated, no being in any respect is identical with, nor the same as, another being. Singleness is apparent in all things. No two grains are alike, nor two grains of sand etc. So the repetition of the same appearance is absolutely impossible. Therefore reincarnation, which is the repeated appearance of the same spirit with it's former essence and condition in this same world is absolutely impossible.

  • the buddhism religion is not only more rational but also more philosophic and more tolerant. but still have their dogmas

  • lol, Maher is awesome

  • That's so funny that you said that. I've been thinking that he wishes he was Hef for years. I'm a fan of Maher but it's funny that someone else noticed the resemblence.I love how he slicks his hair back like he's Gordon Gecco from Wall Street.
