Bob Luman was born 1937 in Nacogdoches, Texas. This 1957 Red Hot is a number associated with Sun artists Billy Emerson (Emerson did the original) and Billy Lee Riley. Luman's version had considerable influence on rock and roll's progression; Ricky Nelson heard it while sitting in Lew Chudd's office. "I heard this voice and a band playing, particularly an unbelievable guitarplayer", Nelson recalled. "That was rock 'n' roll as far as I was concerned".James Burton on leadguitar here!! And James Kirkland/Slapbass Thereafter, Burton and Kirkland accompanied Nelson on most of his Imperial singles.
Bob Luman passed away in 1978.

  • I thought Billy Riley was the original of this.....sucha great great tune. Another goldmine!

  • The original is a blues tune. Recorded at Sun records, Memphis TN. 219 - Billy "The Kid" Emerson : Red Hot / No Greater Love (6-1955).Many artists came to cover this through the years.Billy Lee Riley perhaps became the most well known with it.This here B. Luman version is a fantastic rocker as well.A real bomb! Thanks for visiting and supporting my site.

  • Not as good as BILLY LEE RILEY'S Version.....Murray.

  • I love this version by Luman. The only thing I can guess as to why Riley's version gets the most play is because Riley was on the Sun label during the hey day of rockabilly.Sun was the biggest studio of it's time that had the biggest rockabilly artist in the late 50's.Sun artist got most of the airplay on radio in south during these times.

  • Sam the sham did a later version that is really raucus.

  • They have taken away Luman's version of "The Fool" Scheisse!

  • All hail real rockabilly and the mighty Sun Records!

  • This is on my playlist... Love It Thank's
